New Zealand Vacation Package: Farm Tours

Tour includes visiting a Dairy Farm, High Country sheep and beef station, dry land farms being converted to irrigation and a cropping farm, a visit to a Salmon Farm. A trip into the heart of Fiordland National Park to Milford Sound and the Underwater Observatory and a free day in the action packed capital of Queenstown.

Day 1
You will be met at Christchurch International Airport and taken to your accommodation in the city where you will be breifed on the tour. Sightseeing is available if time allows.



Day 2
We journey south through the Canterbury Plains to Waimate for lunch and then travel inland to Hakateramea, cross the mighty Waitaki River to Kurow and then onto Duntroon to see the "Vanished World of Fossils".  Also we have the oppotunity to visit a cropping and dairy farms.
Our farmstay accommodation is in the Oamaru area.



Day 3
Today we journey through to Dunedin, stopping off at the Moeraki Boulders and the fishing village of Moeraki. On arriving in Dunedin we journey out onto the Otago Peninsula to view the Royal Albatross Coloney. We also visit Nature's Wonderland, a coastal tour of viewing seals, penguins and ocean going birdlife. we visit New Zealands only castle "Larnach Castle".
Our accommodation is in Larnach Lodge.



Day 4
From Dunedin we journey through rolling rural country of a mix of sheep and beef farming to cropping and dairying to our next stop Balclutha. From here we travel toward the South East Coast of the South Island known as the Catlins. You will see golden beaches, the southern most point of the South Island at Slope Point, the Cathedral Caves (viewable only at low tides.) Waterfalls, bush walks and lakes. See New Zealands traditional cribs (small holiday houses) on the beach front. A Petrified Forrest and more..
Our accommodation is in the Catlins area in Farmstay Accommodation and tour of the sheep farm.



Day 5
On leaving the Catlins we travel into Eastern Southland and visit a sheep and beef farm where they use cashmere goats as a weed control tool controlling pasture weeds, and on the rougher ground using the goats for gorse and broom control. We also visit a dairy farm. On both farms you will have the opportunity to talk with the farmer and discuss his farming operation.
Our accommodation is a Farmstay or similar.



Day 6
Today we travel to Bluff, the end of State Highway One that runs the length of New Zealand.  From here we travel through Invercargill and Oreti Beach where Burt Munro ( the film The Worlds Fastest Indian) raced and fine tuned his Indian Special motor cycle.Then on round the Southern Coast Route to Manapouri.
Our accommodation is on the water front at Lake Manapouri.



Day 7
Today we journey through to Milford Sound via Te Anau, through the Eglington Valley, Homer Tunnel and into Milford Sound. Here we join a cruise on Milford Sound to the outer Fiord and also visit an underwater observatory. This is spectacular country, in my view only paralleld to the fiords of Norway and Sweden.
Our farmstay accommodation is in Te Anau.




Day 8
It's onto Queenstown today where you can explore all the town and cafe scene's, activities such as jet boating, heli sight seeing, gondola to Bob's Peak overlooking Queenstown, bungy jumping or just strolling around the shops. Perhaps a cruise on the Lady of the Lake The TSS Earnslaw Steam Ship across the lake to Walter Peak Station for an evening meal. Maybe treat someone special to a spa and massage.
All activities on this day are not included in the tour price.
Our accommodation is in Queenstown.



Day 9
Today we visit Gibbston Valley Wines for wine tasting and a tour of the vineyard. Then it's over the Lindis Pass into the McKenzie Basin, Omarama, Twizel and onto the Hermitage at Mt Cook to our accommodation.
While at the Hermitage, the optional activities you have are kayaking at the foot of the Tasman glacier, or take a ski plane up onto the Tasman Glacier and land on the snow, along with closeup views of New Zealand's tallest mountain Mt Cook. Once again these optional activities are not included in the price of the tour.
Our accommodation is at the Hermitage.



Day 10
Our last day of the tour takes us back to Christchurch via the McKenzie Basin and along the foothills of the Southern Alps. We visit Mt Cook Salmon Farm where you will see salmon being farmed in one of the Hydro Channels serving the Waitaki Power System.
Accommodation in Christchurch.



Price includes 10 nights accommodation based on Bed & Breakfast.
3 Evening meals and one mid day meal.
Travel in a Nissan El Grand Luxury Coach.
